I saw the reseed of this show on dime and remembered I had tried to edit the same show already almost a year ago. I went
back to it and kept editing 'til it sounded good enough. So..
Source was very good, removed a couple of cuts, made intros more audible, bass is higher in mix now with all the instruments and vocals also clearer.
None of the bonus tracks have been released on any official release (that's part of the reason I chose them).
Great show full of great performances (hey, it's The River tour..).
"Only performance of On Top Of Old Smokey, and I'm A Rocker is rare.
Unusual start of show with Prove It All Night, and Badlands has a new keyboard introduction for the first time." -brucebase

Taper Notes:
This show was recorded on a Sony D5M with two Sony ECM 270 mics.
The superb sound was due to the location about 50 feet from stage left.
We were up above the height of the stage but close to the overhead PA speakers.
The first set the mics were taped to the balcony railing but a photographer was busted to our right
so we moved them to an empty seat in the front row and aimed them up at the speaker bank.
Jon Landau pointed out the photographer to security.
As I recall, you can "hear" the security go down in our aisle with a slight shift in sound.
The tape came out pretty well with only 1 tape flip during "Point Blank" (Edited as unnoticeable as possible -ev2).

Another Mark Persic master recording - this show was taped by 'bobb'/'markp', huge thanks to both of you - amazing as usual.
- This show was right after the Portland (The Mountain Show, Ev2) show, and Springsteen makes some references to "the mountain" (St. Helens) during the show.
- 'The River' has the piano intro, but 'Badlands' doesn't.
- The only different song from the Portland show is 'Stolen Car' which was added to set this night (and that show had one-off 'Old Smokey').

"It *was* his first arena show in Chicago, though 10/10-11/80 were *not* the last shows ever at the Uptown.
(It closed in 1981--J. Geils and a few others played there after Bruce.)
They added this show after Bruce mentioned (on stage) they got so many letters from people who couldn't get into the Uptown.

The story behind this is:
"I was working as an assistant engineer at the Record Plant, and we recorded a number of shows on the tour for a live album.
When they came back to LA Toby Scott was starting to mix.
I asked him if he would allow me to do a mix and evaluate my skills. He let me use the 24 track masters to do one song.
He liked what I did and said if I want to play some more I could.
I had forgotten about the tapes until a few days ago while going through some old boxes."

Soundboard - last known version of Rendezvous and the premier live version of Held Up Without A Gun - a tremendous show and one of the longest known. Released on CD "Nassau Night" (Crystal Cat), "Midnight Lightning" (SEA) and on CDR "In The Midnight Hour". Audio recording of 4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) from this show was officially released on the Live/1975-85 box set. In addition, that nights performance of Merry Christmas Baby was officially released on 7/12 vinyl in 1986 (as well as on the Very Special Christmas Various Artists benefit sampler LP/CD); Rendezvous was officially released on Tracks in 1998, and Held Up Without A Gun was officially released on the Essential Bruce Springsteen bonus CD in 2003. About 14 minutes worth of amateur film footage shot from the audience - including the Midnight Hour New Years countdown and the first seconds of 1981, with Bruce spraying champagne all over the front row - is circulating among collectors.

These are single files in four parts not separated into individual tracks (though users with Sound Forge 9 may possibly see the individual track regions whereas others may use other similar softare to do this on their own.)
Audacity was used to mix the tracks together, and Sound Forge 9 was used to assemble the files into one (urban) legendary 46 song set. Again, this is a compilation and not meant to be historical in anyway.
Additionally, Fade Away contained a skip on the original Ev2 recording used here. This has been fixed on this recording.
