Sorry, but then you are guilty yourself for not hearing these great performances. :P

I have been going to Bruce shows, purchasing his albums, collecting bootlegs, etc. since 1975, and have seen it all. I am 49 years old.

The worst thing to have happened during the course of time was when Ronald Reagan mentioned Bruce's name during a whistle stop tour in 1984. Bruce went nuts after that, saying "I am a Democrat, not a republican."

And all I can say is it was all downhill from there. I love Bruce, his music, and his concerts. He certainly gives it his all, and leaves it all on the stage. But I believe politics and music need to stay apart. It is horrible to watch a person with the talent Bruce has, to go and raise money for a politician who has raised and spent almost 3/4 of a Billion dollars already. Hey, enough is enough.

I love the music, but I know where to draw the line. And this is it. I have plenty of other music to listen to. Hope you enjoy those shows.

By the way, if Bruce really cared so much about invasion of privacy, as the song Living in the Future implies, then why doesn't he write a song about the Democrat who broke into Sarah Palin's email account, and posted her private messages on the web? If he doesn't then he is more about party than principle. Separate The Music From Politics....

Real Bruce Fans

WTF! I just love these people that say they love Bruce's music... except for the political stuff. They say he should stay out of politics. Maybe they don't really understand him and his music. But thats ok, everyone is entitled to their opinion. The real Bruce fans will keep listening.

Anyway, I would love to get my hands on the new song, "Workin' on a Dream."

Rat:

It is not up to you to define what constitues a "real" Bruce fan. Each of us likes the music or the man for various reasons, and we all have our dislikes of the music or the man for other reasons.

The problem is that I became a Bruce fan long before he started spewing politics from his mouth, and found that Bruce to be the one I like. All of his classics were from his Pre-Politics days, the days when he could write a song like Jungleland, or Kitty's Back, rather than Living in the Future.

To me, Bruce has done a great job distancing as many fans with his political nonsense, than he has gained with it.

But I tend to look at the bright side. If his candidate Obama wins, then many of us "middle class Americans" will have some of our concert money, or cd money, returned to us from Bruce by means of Obama's redistribution of wealth. I would imagine Bruce will probably pay a few more million in taxes each year for his helping Obama.

It is like helping a rattlesnake out of a pit; it will turn on you and strike you every time. One of these years Bruce will learn the hard way on that one.

And you really think songgwriting has got something to do with his political thoughts? That's the silliest thing i ever heard, look at other bands that are around for like 30 years, AC/DC, the Rolling Stones, The Who yeah even bob dylan, i could go on and on and on, they ALL don't write classics like in their early days anymore. that's a normal thing that comes with aging, you don't have the glory ideas anymore that shadow all other yet released things, it is natural. and what do you mean with political nonsense? man, politics are the things that rule our lives every single day, politics is one of the most important things in the world, it effects on everybody in the world and you have to recognize it.

Ehm everyone has his or her political opinion, which he less or more try to share around, but not everyone has the chance to talk about that opinion on stage.

What i try to say is, that Bruce isn't an other person because of that. He only shares his thoughts with other people and that is a think that everyone do.

And if you read his speeches you'll recognize that this texts more patriotic than democratic ...

i hope you could understand what i wanted to say xD

DarkNight:

I hear you. But I guess I do not appreciate someone telling me what narrow criteria it takes to qualify as a fan.

Early on, tickets were not that tough to obtain.

But in 1984-85, when Bruce tickets became harder and harder to get, I stayed overnight many times waiting for the ticket office to open to get tickets, drove numerous times down to the Stone Pony with the rumor that Bruce would be there, went to endless Southside Johnny shows to give the local NJ band support (Hey, Bruce even showed up to one of those in Morristown NJ, at the Morris stage, and that was cool). Drove From state to state to see shows. I even bought and still have a vinyl copy of the first Bootleg (Great White Boss).

Anyway, I have paid my dues, and have no regrets. The only problem I have with Bruce is his blatantly endorsing political candidates. I think it is garbage. Even Bob Dylan only wrote vaguely about politics, mentioning only political themes. That is fine. If Bruce were to have a concert to end the war, that would be fine. But to name names?? Kerry, Obama?? I'm sorry, but that to me is garbage.

I went twice this last tour, so I guess that means I still am a fan. I just wish the politics would cease.

maister,

I don't get it. If you don't like Bruce's politics, or ANYONE's for that matter, just ignore them. Don't make some stupid statement on a website.

Every US citizen is allowed their opinion. And Bruce uses his public stage, as he is entitled to. If you don't like it, it's simple, don't listen. Ignore it. It's not hard.

And I'm glad people have posted these shows, the whole shows, including speeches. 1) there is some great performances in here and different takes on old songs, 2) I like Bruce's patriotism so I like hearing about the idealistic America. If you took the time to listen, even if you filtered out the speeches, you might find some gems yourself.

Obama won, deal with it.

Badlands,

Have I complained that these political shows should not be on this website? No I haven't. I only said that they will not be downloaded by me. I do not think that is a bad thing to say. If Bruce wants to get political, then he should expect his fans to respond, each in his own way. I did that, and I am done saying it.

So I will finalize by saying I love Bruce's music, but I disregard anything he has to say with respect to politics, or religion. But aside from those, he still puts on the best show on earth.

Maister,

You keep bringing this up, so you obviously have some problem with it. If you really didn't care, you could just not say anything and not download the shows. But you chose to bring it up, so there's apparently an issue important enough to say something and make an issue out of it.

Reading your earlier posts, it's apparent that your real issue is with Obama. There are forums to complain about Bruce and politics (see Backstreets), and about Obama (see Redstate or FreeRepublic). I'm sure you're already a big contributor there. Socialism for all!!!

Thanks in advance.

Look under the 2008 link and you'll find about four different versions:

Travitiz
Bossman
NYC Taper
Ev2 version (this is the best version and is most highly recommended. Also get the missing tracks compilation from the first two shows).

Hope this helps.
